Director Peter McDowell

Surrounded by opera as a child and trained as a musician and actor, Los Angeles based award winning film director Peter has always been drawn to melding music and film in his work. He made two Super 8 short films in the early 1990s that played at San Francisco’s Frameline Film Festival, one of which, I Dream of Dorothy, went on to festivals worldwide. In addition to filmmaking, Peter works as an arts producer and fundraiser, having held leadership positions at American Friends of the Louvre, Eighth Blackbird, and the Chicago Cultural Center. He is a DeVos Institute for Arts Management International Fellow, and recipient of grants from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the California Humanities Council for JIMMY IN SAIGON.


The Film’s Journey

JIMMY IN SAIGON premiered at the British Film Institute’s Flare film festival in London in March 2022, followed by full houses and standing ovations at Frameline San Francisco LGBTQ FF, NewFest NY, among many other festivals including Athens, Bentonville, Thessaloniki, Chicago, Taipei, Palm Springs (33 and counting).

The film has been honored with 13 festival awards thus far including in Amsterdam, Dublin, Torino, and Honolulu and was named one of the Best LGBTQ Films of 2022 by the Bay Area Reporter!
